Thank you for your end-of-year donations; we found them especially inspiring in these uncertain times. Thank you, too, for your past contributions, which over the years have supported our humanitarian work, our teachers and lineage, and the purchase of land for the Hawai'i Insight Meditation Center.

We have now launched the pre-construction planning phase for the Center, a crucial set of actions that prepare us to break ground in compliance with our County special permit. Our organization, like many others, is facing significant financial challenges, and we ask you to dig deep once again and to network on our behalf to keep this inspired project moving forward. We must meet County requirements and deadlines -- or lose our special permit.

So...what does pre-construction planning entail?

• Revising parcel boundaries and easements to optimize land configuration for the long term

• Transforming 8-year-old schematic drawings into design-development plans in preparation for building-permit applications and preliminary cost estimates; creating lists of fixtures and equipment not already accounted for in design development

• Tailoring our business plan to include strategies that help support the Center once it is operational

• Acquiring donor software and redesigning our website to meet ongoing fundraising needs

• Planning the capital campaigns necessary to fund the first two construction phases

These actions involve an array of professionals -- a surveyor, an attorney, the project architect, engineers, alternative energy consultants, and fundraising/marketing specialists -- as well as our executive director, assisted by our development coordinator.

We have grant money in hand to begin the planning phase and recently submitted three grant proposals to augment that. Your continued support strengthens our ability to advance this project.
