Spanning over 100 acres of land rich in agricultural, natural, and cultural resources as well as a gorgeous coastline parcel, Vipassana Hawai‘i’s land in North Kohala, Hawai‘i Island, centers around land steward practices in harmony with the countless beings that the land sustains. What is possible:

Landownership opportunities and meditative community.

Organic gardens with food crops. Mahalo to our volunteers who are already working in a small garden.

Native-tree planting: The root systems of native trees are adapted to island soils to prevent erosion and optimize ground water retention. Hala is just one species with excellent potential.

Sustainable artisan hardwood cultivation: Native hardwoods grown on dedicated plots serve as an investment for a wholesome future. We invite you to learn more and join us in planting a tree today.

Macadamia nut orchards: Existing plantings in Hālawa gulch are already being restored.

Coffee, cacao, and breadfruit cultivation.

Protection of ancient cultural sites: Programs under the guidance of local Hawaiian elders help us to preserve the values of history for generations to come.

A coastline reserve set aside for nesting Pacific seabirds: This task is ever more urgent as the climate changes and ocean levels rise.

Responsibly managed coastal access in collaboration with Hawai‘i government initiatives.

The Buddha gave instructions to his students as such: “Here are the roots of trees. Here are empty places. Practice diligently….This is my instruction to you.”
